The Faces of Power
HEADS OF STATE: WHO SHALL WE CROWN?
This oil painting series explores the figures we elevate to power, the leaders we follow, and the icons who shape our world. From monarchs to cultural legends, religious figures to revolutionaries, Heads of State questions who we choose to lead, why we place our trust in them, and how leadership takes many forms. Through bold portraits and rich textures, this series examines influence, authority, and the ever-changing definition of power across cultures and generations.
Who do we follow? Who do we trust? Who do we crown as leaders in our personal, cultural, and political spheres? Heads of State is an oil painting series that explores the figures we elevate—monarchs, revolutionaries, spiritual guides, and cultural icons—and examines how leadership manifests in different ways across history and society.
From Queen Elizabeth to an Indigenous chief, from a rabbi to Biggie Smalls, this collection reflects the diverse faces of leadership, challenging the conventional notions of power. Some leaders are chosen by the people, others inherit their thrones, and some rise to influence through art, music, or rebellion. While some command with authority, others lead with vision, and some inspire without ever seeking to rule.
Through rich textures and striking compositions, Heads of State invites viewers to reflect on the figures they look up to and the forces that shape their perceptions of power. It asks: What makes a leader? Is it birthright, wisdom, charisma, or cultural impact? Who do we follow, and why?
This series is a meditation on influence, control, and the human instinct to seek guidance. It reminds us that leadership is not always defined by title or position, but by the ability to inspire, challenge, and leave a lasting imprint on the world.
